Cecilia Torres
Community Outreach Liaison
Cecilia Torres (she/her) supports Community FarmShare’s community outreach work, supporting direct communication and outreach to communities and program participants.
She immigrated from Bucay-Ecuador to the United States at the age of 16. Her first job was in the Catering industry, which facilitated the learning of the language and the adaptation to the new culture. She completed high school in Maryland and holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Geography from University of Maryland College Park. She continued her studies in University of Maryland Global Campus and obtained dual Masters’ degrees in Healthcare and Business Administration.
Her passion in the Healthcare and Business Industries started 20 years ago when she became the Office Manager and Bilingual Medical interpreter in different departments at Sibley Memorial Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine. She worked closely with Doctors and Nurses who mentored her continuous growth in the field of Gastrointestinal diseases, Pain Management, Breast Imaging and other departments. She became a bilingual Spanish interpreter and Real Estate Salesperson to help with the barriers of communication that her community is facing and the disparities that prevent the Spanish Community from getting access to healthcare and housing.
Since she had the privilege to live in a small town in Ecuador surrounded by farms and rivers; she firmly believes that the best food is the fresh produce getting from local farms, which is rich in nutrients that will greatly contribute to our digestive system to process food faster and efficient.
