Cassie Romero
Community Engagement Coordinator
Cassie Romero (they/them/elle) serves as the Community Engagement Coordinator at Community FarmShare.
Their parents emigrated to San Francisco from Central America and eventually made their way to Maryland, where Cassie was born and raised. Cassie holds a Bachelors of Science in Biology and a Bachelors of Art in Environmental Studies from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Their focus was on the implementation of vermicultures to mediate soil degradation, the harmful effects that landfills have on marginalized communities, and nutrient availability within produce. After undergrad, Cassie moved to Sacramento to work with students who were residing in communities that were overlooked and underfunded. In 2023, Cassie worked in forest restoration alongside the Department of Natural Resources and King County, Seattle, to improve the health of watersheds and control soil erosion.
Cassie’s commitment to their community and environment has guided them towards food justice work. In Seattle, they volunteered with the Black Farmers Coalition to grow culturally relevant food on a small plot of land located within the city. Cassie believes that every community has a right to food sovereignty, and will continue to work towards this goal while elevating farmers in the process. In their free time, they love to garden and do crafts such as crocheting, wood burning, drawing, and writing.
